Privacy policy
The short version
- Rimbalo collects nothing. Diamond Edge receives nothing you dictate, type or share.
- There is no account and no sign-in, and Diamond Edge runs no server the app talks to.
- The app contains no analytics, advertising or crash-reporting code.
- Purchases are handled by the App Store or Google Play.
When you dictate
- While you hold the talk button, the app takes sound from the phone’s microphone. Speech recognition runs on the phone, with a speech model the App Store or Google Play delivers after you install the app.
- The sound is held in memory until it is transcribed. The app keeps no audio file.
- The app has no generative model. Every sentence in a document is one you dictated, or a snippet you wrote yourself and put in by voice.
- The speech model does not change with what you dictate. Your word list steers recognition toward your words; it trains nothing.
- Anything you type, such as a word for your word list or a snippet, passes through the phone’s keyboard. A keyboard from another developer is its own app, with its own policy.
Where it is kept
- Dictations, documents, your word list and your snippets are stored in the app’s own storage on the phone. With a passcode set, the phone encrypts that storage.
- The app has no lock of its own. Anyone who can get past the phone’s lock screen can open it.
- Deleting the app deletes everything it stored.
- On iPhone, the app leaves its storage out of the phone’s backup unless you turn on “Include dictations in this iPhone’s backup” in the app’s Settings. It starts off. While it is on, each backup to iCloud or to a computer holds a copy, under that backup’s own terms.
- On Android, the app opts out of Android’s backup to Google. Android’s own transfer to a new phone can copy the app’s storage directly to that phone.
What leaves the phone
- We wrote no code that can send your audio or your documents anywhere, and on Android the operating system enforces it. What you can check yourself shows how to confirm it.
- When you share a dictation, the phone’s share sheet hands it to the app you choose. From there it is subject to that app.
- Read-back uses a voice on the phone. On iPhone it is Apple’s speech voice. On Android it comes from the phone’s text-to-speech app, and Rimbalo uses only a voice that app reports as needing no network connection; if there is none, Rimbalo reads nothing aloud.
- The speech model is a download from the App Store or Google Play to the phone. The app hands the store nothing with it.
Purchases
One Year and the packs are bought through the App Store or Google Play, under Apple’s or Google’s own terms and privacy policy. The phone keeps what was bought, so the app works without asking the store again. Apple and Google give Diamond Edge the sales reports they give every developer; none of what you dictate is in them.
Crash reports
If you have let your phone share diagnostics with app developers, Apple or Google may send Diamond Edge a crash report, which describes where the app stopped and on what kind of phone. The app adds nothing to it, and you can turn that sharing off in the phone’s settings.
This website
These pages set no cookies, run no analytics and load nothing from any other site. Like any web host, the company that serves them sees the address that asks for a page, in order to send it. It tells us nothing about who visited, and we keep no log of visits. In GDPR terms, serving the page is a legitimate interest (Article 6(1)(f)).
Writing to us
You can write to us through the form linked at the foot of each page, which a form provider runs for us, or by email from the app’s Settings or the Google Play listing. Either way we have your email address and what you wrote, kept for us by our form and email providers, and we use them only to answer you: in GDPR terms, a legitimate interest (Article 6(1)(f)), or a step toward a contract you asked about (Article 6(1)(b)). We keep a message only as long as it is useful for answering you, and send you nothing but our answer.
Children
Rimbalo is a tool for professionals and is not directed at children under 13.
Your rights
Diamond Edge holds nothing about you from the app, so there is nothing of yours to access, correct, export or delete there: it is all on your phone, under your control. For anything in a message you sent us, write to us and we will act on it, wherever you live. If you are in the EU or the UK, you may also complain to your data-protection authority.
Diamond Edge LLC, Salem, Utah, is responsible for this website and the messages sent to us (the controller, in GDPR terms).
Changes
There is no account to email, so a change is dated and versioned here, and noted in the app’s release notes. A change that let any of your data leave the phone would also need a change to the app, and to what you can check yourself.
